Are end time prophecies sending the church back to the dark ages?

In the times past all kinds of superstition was attached to routine astronomical events. When we did not understand the reason for the phenomena we tended to attribute the event to divine blessings or curses. People who did understand the science behind these events have used the fear of the power to promote themselves and becomes shamans or to win authority over the people.

When we look at these events in the past we smile at the innocence of man and thank God that we have moved forward into an era where such superstitions do not rule over us.

However, in the recent Christian hysteria over the “blood” moon makes me wonder if we who are meant to be the light of the world are heading back to the dark ages. Christians who laugh and mock the worship of animals and cows are now terrified of “blood” moons and what they consider strange astronomical phenomenon and claim Biblical authority for the same. Are they justified?

If we see the Biblical references to the end-times it speaks not of natural astronomical phenomena but of supernatural events being a harbinger of end-times (Matt 24:29 and Mark 13:24). So we cannot see natural astronomical events as signs of the end. To do so would be to go back to the dark ages.

Amos 3:7 says that God does not do anything without telling His servants the prophets. So instead of trying to read the stars like good astrologists let us walk with faith in Yahweh and His Son Jesus Christ that they will be true to their promises and not spring any surprises on us. These speculations are the distraction of Satan to take us away from the work of winning souls and discipling. Hence the emphasis by Paul in 1 Timothy 4:7 and 2 Timothy 2:16 to avoid these kind of speculations.
